Are Your Window Treatments Safe for Children?
At Perfect Fit Window Fashions & Design, the safety of our customers and their children is very important to us. That’s why we’re so proud to offer a variety of Hunter Douglas window fashions with child safety features. Several years ago, the window treatment industry recognized the danger of looped window treatment cords, and Hunter Douglas led the way in creating window treatments with safer lifting mechanisms.
You can take these steps to ensure your window coverings don’t pose a threat to kids and pets:
• Replace all blinds and shades that have cords and were manufactured before 2001. More recently produced window treatments include safety features such as loop control, cordless operation, and wand pull.
• Safety is important throughout the house, but be particularly conscious of the window treatments in children’s bedrooms and play areas. Even if you have safe blinds or shades, move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys that be climbed on away from windows.
• Keep all window pull cords and inner lift cords out of the reach of children. Tassel pull cords should be kept short. Make sure continuous-loop cords are permanently anchored to the floor or wall. Install cord stops to adjust movement of inner lift cords.
• Ensure cords are locked into position when blinds or shades are lowered.
• Use safety features, such as cord cleats and tensioning devices, to increase the safety of your window coverings.
